King George V Playing Fields & Frank Myler Sports and Recreation Ground

Dear Kingsway Ward Resident,

I’ve had a few queries today about why there is fencing and work on going on a small part of the King George V Playing Fields by Foxley Heath.  The work going on is to put in the sewerage outlet pipes for the new Victoria Gardens housing development on Liverpool Road. I’ve been advised that the work will take 6-8 weeks to complete and then the area concerned will be returned to grass.

The footpaths will only be closed as the machinery passes and then will be re-opened.

Frank Myler Sports and Recreation Ground

This Wednesday 9th September from 3pm there will be free sports activities at the new Frank Myler Sports and Recreation Ground, previously the ICI Rec.  From 3pm – 5pm there will also be a chance to have a look around the new Frank Myler Sports Pavilion.  Details of the activities on offer on Wednesday can be found on the below publicity.

The Frank Myler Sports Pavilion is a single storey building, comprising of the following:

  • 8 large sports changing rooms
  • 2 family changing rooms
  • 5 officials changing rooms
  • 2 accessible changing rooms
  • a community room (suitable for exercise classes, meetings and functions, the room can be divided into separate areas)
  • kitchen
  • outdoor football and rugby pitches and a cricket wicket
  • reception area with WiFi
  • a floodlit multi use games area

Halton Council hopes the high quality facilities will be fully operational over the summer months delivering support to the local amateur sport teams and providing new opportunities for a wide range of community activities. Activity examples include: holiday multi-sport sessions for ages 8 to 18yrs, sports specific coaching sessions and group exercise classes for 25 – 55yrs

The council’s sport and recreation team, already offers and facilitates a number of generic services that will be delivered from the venue, such as, community sports coach scheme, sports volunteer programme, coach education and development workshops and sports leadership courses.

The Frank Myler Sports and Recreation Ground is an important community sports facility in Halton and is situated in the Kingsway Ward on Liverpool Road. The site has historically provided community sports facilities and pitches for the community. In developing the site multisport has been a prime consideration. The site is centrally located in the town on a major public transportation route and forms the northern part of a much larger sports park area.

In addition to improving activity levels the facilities hope to use sport as a tool to regenerate and revitalise the wider community, helping to address issues relating to health, anti-social behaviour, education and environmental improvement.

If you have any queries regarding this or any other matter, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes,

Andrea
